Getting Around

With sponsorship from The Donkey Sanctuary and contributions from guests and local businesses each season, there is a discounted bus service known as the Sidmouth Hopper Bus which will be running this year until the 1st September. The bus runs hourly from the Donkey Sanctuary into Sidmouth for those of you don’t want the hassle of parking. Please note, it is a hail and ride service without fixed stops. There is also the Number 9A Bus that runs between Exeter, Sidmouth, Sidford and Seaton which is a great way to reach the sights of Seaton with the bus stopping at the main Seaton Tramway Station as well as West to Exeter Bus Station within 45mins. Please click here to view the 9A Bus timetable.


Pecorama is a tourist attraction on the hillside above the nearby village of Beer, Devon. Pecorama includes a display of many model railways, gardens, a indoor soft play area, shops, and the Beer Heights Light Railway.

The Donkey Sanctury

The Donkey Sanctuary is open 365 days a year and home to hundreds of donkeys. There are scenic walks, indoor attractions and a new family-friendly restaurant providing a tranquil place to eat and enjoy.

Sidmouth Town Centre

Sidmouth is a beautiful coastal town with a regency feel, ideal for visitors of all ages. Located in the middle of spectacular countryside, it is home to beautiful beaches, stylish places to eat and great local shops.

South West Coast Path

Birdsong Cottage is on the doorstep of Britain’s longest and most popular National Trail, 'The South West Coast Path'. Whether you take a short stroll or stride out on the clifftops, you are sure to find your own piece of beauty.

The Blue Ball Inn

On our doorstep, a wonderful, dog friendly pub with large car park and fantastic food. Whether it's a bite for lunch or a nice evening meal, the Blue Ball Inn is a lovely place to eat and drink only a few minutes drive from the cottage.

The Byes Riverside Park

Ideal for our 4 legged friends, the Byes is one of the jewels of Sidmouth running for approximately 2 km from the heart of the town, north up to Sidford. It has both footpaths and cycle tracks winding their way along the valley of the River Sid.

Oakdown Holiday Park, Golf & Dog Spa

Located nearby is 5* Oakdown Holiday Park with a 9 hole family friendly golf short-course with club hire, shop and playground. For a £3 charity donation, our guests can use their new dog spa to clean those muddy paws after a long walk.

BIRDWATCHING at Seaton Wetlands

Only a 10min drive away, Seaton's wetland marshes, scrapes and lagoons are backed by its adjacent estuary. A local nature reserve owned by East Devon District Council, this area is excellent for wetland birds, waders and waterfowl.

Seaton Tramway

Seaton Tramway is a fun day out and a great way to see over 3 miles of unspoilt countryside along the beautiful Axe Valley. Travelling in a heritage tram alongside the River Axe estuary through two nature reserves, it is really worth a visit.

Beer Quarry Caves

Beer Quarry Caves is a man-made limestone underground complex located near to Birdsong Cottage in the beautiful village of Beer. Take a guided tour through the vast man-made complex of underground caverns with mighty halls and pillars.

Crealy Theme Park & Resort

Crealy Theme Park & Resort, formerly Crealy Adventure Park & Resort, is Southwest England's largest family Theme Park attraction, voted the areas number one family day out and home to over 60 rides, attractions, live shows and a zoo.

Exeter's Underground Passages

A guided tour of Exeter's Underground Passages is a memorable event - narrow, dark, interesting and exciting. The heritage centre is packed with interactive exhibits and these are the only passages of this kind open to the public in Britain.

Wiscombe Park Motorsport

Wiscombe Park is a superb hillclimb venue situated in a steep wooded valley, just south of Honiton in Devon. The course regularly runs national and club motorsport events throughout the year and is great to watch with free onsite parking.

Whether it is a guided commentary wildlife trip along the River Exe, a relaxing sailing along the Jurassic coastline or a Christmas special sailing with Santa - Stuart Line Cruises has been listed as one of the top family attractions in Devon.

Greendale Farm Shop

Award winning farm shop with restaurant with plenty of indoor & outdoor seating. For children, there are indoor & outdoor play areas, lots of animals to see from chickens to wallabies plus old tractors and a fire engine to play on.

Hare and Hounds Pub

A traditional country pub 10 minutes drive from Birdsong with wooden beams, log fires, local ales and a warm welcome for all the family. Renowned for its food, they offer a daily carvery every lunch and evening alongside an excellent menu.
